18 days left until Halloween, and I suggest you start thinking about your costume right about now. Ideas have been brewing in my mind but I'm still not sure which direction I want to go in, so I decided to take a look back at celebrity Halloween outfits for the good, the bad, and the fails.
Use them to guide you in the 'yes' and 'no' directions as a start to your thinking process for this upcoming Halloween!
2013 Celebrity Costumes
Do Consider a Hilarious Costume
Matt Lauer of NBC's The Today Show, dressed up as Pamela Anderson from Baywatch last year. I can't look at this pic without totally cracking up every time. It's pure genius. He even teamed up with Carmen Electra and Willie Geist (as David Hasselhoff) for a group shot.
I think this type of thing works best if you're a man dressing as a super hot woman, it's bound to be pretty funny.
Do Go For a Highly Creative Costume
Heidi Klum is on a level on her own when it comes to Halloween costumes. She always achieves a shock factor and she's the first person we look for when celebrity Halloween costumes come out. Last year one of her costumes was an old woman version of herself. When most celebrities go for sexy/hot, some go for scary, Heidi just goes for out-of-the-box original. Here are some of her best previous costumes.
This works for both men and women who want to completely change their look and up the creativity to the max.
Do Go For a Properly Gory Costume
Do you guys remember Carrie? I mean the original 1976 version of Carrie? It was so freaky! I think Kelly Osbourne pulled it off pretty well here, it's definitely really gory.
Re-enacting movie scary characters also works for men and women who want to go all bloody this Halloween.
Do Go For a Celebrity-Imitation Costume
If you can't figure out who Ellen was trying to look like, it's her. Ellen makes me laugh.
If you want to imitate a celebrity this Halloween, go for someone who's got the total opposite look that people would expect seeing you in.
Do Get The Whole Family to Dress Up
Oh, my, gosh - please, we can't bear this cuteness. What is that! We want a family yesterday just so we can do this too. It must be a HIMYM thing.
If you got yourself a family, I think pretty much anything would be really cute as long as you're all dressed up together.
Don't Be The One Wearing a Lame Costume!
Sorry Queen Bey, but you deserved this title last year, twice. A bumble bee and what we guess is some Instagram pic? Whatever this is, it's she just got dressed in something really fast so when the paparazzi photographed her, we could all say she participated in Halloween.
Don't go for minimal effort, if you're going to a Halloween party, put some effort into dressing up!
Don't Go For an Expected Costume
Guys, guess what! Paris Hilton wore a sexy Halloween outfit, twice. One she was Barbie, and another time she was Madonna circa 'Like a Virgin' days! Wow, who could have seen that coming!
Again, don't go for a costume that resembles pretty much how you look everyday. Go for the shock factor!
Don't Leave People Expecting More From Your Costume
Chelsey Handler must be the funniest, most obnoxious, and addictive female on late night talk shows (well before Chelsea Lately ended). I get the irony that she would be pregnant, but...meh.
If you're one of those people who makes anyone around you laugh, you just can't afford to go for something kiiinda funny.
Don't Be a Shame to Halloween Costumes Everywhere
Tara Reid just shamed Halloween costumes last year - it's both unflattering, and she didn't even intend to be scary.
If you're going to be revealing this Halloween, just get a friend's input before you step out the door.
Stay tuned for more Halloween inspiration ideas coming up soon.
